The Less-Single Use Plastic Graphic Art Show:

Artist: Juliana Twomey (AKA juliana2me)

Name of Exhibit: The Less-Single-Use Plastic Graphic Art Show

Description: Juliana2me graphic designer, artist, and art teacher, compelled to her skills to help the planet, is creating one design each day for 2022. These designs are intended to spread awareness of our growing plastic pollution problem and to encourage people to use Less Single-Use Plastic.

Juliana wants to spread a message to help the earth. Her message is simple but she says it many different times and in many different ways with a new twist for a new audience to widen the reach. She is “speaking” visually by using and incorporating her two primary Logos. Her original Less Single-Use Plastic (with a less than symbol) Logo and the complimentary More Luv (with a greater than symbol) logo.

Her mission is to create one design each day for 2022. The designs are available on organic and sustainable products and also as graphic art prints on archival paper framed or unframed. Included  In these designs is a special design for each state. Here she gave herself a design challenge: How could she express the landscape or essence of a place visually with just two lines and a circle for a sun or moon? Some other designs include. Indigenous Wisdom (a logo with pictographic symbols and earthy colors), Bluegrass (a butterfly rising from blue blades of grass above the logo), Stop & Think hand-drawn brush swirl to take your eye in and help you ponder while the words "less' and “use" come forward and spin like a record.

If you have a space to display these prints, please contact Juliana. She will Ship 10-15 framed pieces to your gallery, restaurant, coffee shop, bank, retail space, or anywhere that the public can view and be inspired by these designs.

Less Single-Use Plastic Gallery

I was thrilled when I recently went into a retail location with some of the designs on bags. when I showed the shop owner her first comment was "Oh; these are fun!" I was so thrilled to hear this because I truly believe people are motivated by positivity. I think I witnessed this closely through my experience as a teacher. As a teacher, I often felt like a guide and a witness. Most of the growth I would see in a student came from when I would positively encourage them.

I love the feeling of knowing that I am part of that growth process. With this design project, I have a similar objective. I hope that these designs will encourage others to make changes in their purchasing patterns. My intention is to give the message in a fun and positive way. Of course, I do realize that the situation is grave and that the consequence of the plastics in our environment is alarming, but I think if we focus on the negative we can easily fall into a state of inertia. We can just "give up" and feel powerless and think that our individual small actions don't matter. I believe that it is just human nature. We are inspired when we think our actions ARE making difference. We also can feel empowered by seeing that we can not only change our own habits but inspire others to do the same.

Can you be a leader to your family or group of friends?  I hope the designs I am creating inspire you to bring a bag to the store each and every time you shop. I hope it helps you to create a habit of bringing a water bottle with you when you head out the door. I hope that you wear a T-Shirt and that a friend asks you what it is about, and that you can inspire them.
