I am a graphic designer, artist, and art teacher, compelled to use my skills to help the planet. I plan to create one design each day for 2022. These designs are for sale on organic and sustainable products to help spread awareness of our growing plastic pollution problem by reminding us that we can choose less single-use plastic.
About "MAINE" Design #81: When I think of Maine I think of rocky shorelines meeting the deep, and sometimes rough, blue-green Atlantic waves. I also think of how this combination of cliffs and shore is often unpredictable, and therefore mysterious in nature. The seasonal changes add to that mystery when the ocean changes from an inviting escape where many people flock to, to a more isolated place of solitude. All of these things lead me to the shapes and color choices for this design. The muted blue-green grayish moon for mystery, the royal blue wave, and the green line to represent the rocky cliff-like shore that is full of evergreens.
Maine is one of the states that has a plastic bag ban. It went into place in July of 2021. To learn more about this you can visit this page on the Maine Department of Environmental Protection website. https://www.maine.gov/dep/news/news.html?id=5010879
And from this website I read this staggering statistic:
"According to the Centers for Biological Diversity, consumption of single-use plastic bags in the US is estimated to average a bag a day (365) per person per year and the EPA estimates that that in 2018, Americans generated nearly 9 billion pounds of PE films, bags and wraps annually."
Great for all seasons, this hoodie is 85% organic ring-spun combed cotton, and 15% recycled polyester. It is the perfect balance of comfort and stretchiness. The drawcords match the body colors while the kangaroo pocket adds utility to this stylish choice.
